Delicious Food, Ready When You Are

Brought to you by Nuffnang and dish’d

Mealtimes in our house take a bit of planning.

For the last month or so I have been going to the gym after work (yep I have a five day a week, 9-5 job as well as this blog) so I’m not getting home until 7.30pm some weeknights. My husband is a great help – and I’m not just saying that to make him feel good because I don’t really think he reads my blog anyway 🙂 Most weeknights he will pick up the kids from school/ day care and sort out homework, baths and maybe start on dinner – if we have anything.

That’s were dish’d comes in.

If you’re like me, you may not have heard of dish’d? dish’d is a new and exciting way to experience delicious food from around the world in the comfort of your own home. When you think of frozen meals what comes to mind? Watery? Tasteless? Well I can assure you dish’d will change the way you think about frozen meals. dish’d has a range of high quality meals, deserts and meal components (veges & meat etc) all frozen to retain their nutritional and taste credentials, ready to be enjoyed…when you are.

The frozen meal solutions available from dish’d use the finest ingredients, which have been cleverly packaged to not only maintain flavour but also to look like they have been served from a top restaurant. This is probably because they have been created by reputable chefs from around the world including Melbourne based chef Jacques Reymond.

So how can dish’d help my busy family?

Last Friday I went online and chose a selection of goodies from dish’d. Firstly there is so much to choose from including a heap of yummy deserts [I’m talking about you salted caramel ganache tart]. But rather than go crazy and get a whole delivery of deserts (which did cross my mind at one stage) I actually tried to plan meals that would make our weeknights a little less hectic.

dish’d currently only deliver to metro Victoria and NSW, you can check if they deliver to you here. One of the best things is they offer next day delivery. I actually ordered on a Friday knowing that the next delivery day to my area was the following Tuesday but it’s great to have the option of next day delivery if I need it. Everything went smoothly with my delivery, I received email confirmation of my order and follow-up text messages on Tuesday letting me know my delivery was on it’s way and even once it had been delivered. We were not home when the deliveryman arrived but it was put exactly where I had requested it be placed.

The box was had plenty of dry ice (and my delicious food) and the delivery could have lasted hours without spoiling. In fact it will stay cool up to approx 10pm on the day it’s delivered if kept in a shady place.

Welcome to Restaurant ala Our House.

dish'd pizzaTuesday night was Italian Pizza and Gelato Night. Main course consisted of two delicious pizza’s – Mozzarella and Pesto and Five Cheese, finished off with four flavours of gelato for desert: Sicilian Lemon, Bacio, Cherry Swirl and Chocolatissimo. All this was on special for $20 (normally $25) at the time I ordered and the pizzas were seriously as good, if not better than our local gourmet pizza place. The kids loved the pizza and especially loved the gelato. The only problem with this meal was there is five of us and the meal deal only came with four gelatos and I forgot to buy a fifth one separately. So unfortunately Daddy missed out  🙂

Wednesday we needed a quick and easy meal because we all got home super late. We ended up having a selection of finger food which included Prawn Baguettes, Vegetable Spring Rolls and Thai Prawn Money Bags.

It was super quick, easy and delicious!

Thursday’s menu was one of my favourites, probably because we included a delectable dessert. For main we had Atlantic Salmon Fillets, Parisian Baby Potatoes in a Parsley Dressing and Steamed Greens. There are six individually wrapped salmon fillets in the packet so if you don’t have a family of five like us you won’t waste any by opening the main package.

The steamed green vegetables come in four individual packs – two packs served the five of us easily. The potatoes are generous and there were more than enough for all of us. For dessert we had a Berry Le Carre Feuillete. OMG this was sooo yummy, the pastry was perfect and crispy and the filling was absolutely delicious.

Friday I managed to sneak in an afternoon Berry Smoothie. This is such an great idea – fruit covered in skim milk powder and yoghurt. Just add the frozen smoothie fruit and your choice of milk (I added some yoghurt too) and blend.  A yummy afternoon tea and great breakfast idea too and a super bargain – only $1.95 a pack.

Friday’s dinner was another winner.

Lamb Fillets with Potato Dauphinois and Steamed Greens. The lamb fillets were ‘melt in the mouth’ and the potatoes were cheesy and delicious. I got two packets of the lamb fillets to feed the five of us. There was more than enough potato and I used the remaining two steamed green bags to complete the meal. I need to make a special mention that the steamed greens were probably the best frozen veges I have ever had!

I’m so impressed I have already placed my second order.

So for nearly a weeks worth of dinners, a sneaky desert and a yummy afternoon smoothie I was very, very impressed at the price. All up my entire order came to $98. That works out about $20 a night for dinner or $4 each person. For the quality of the food I think this is very affordable. The food is extremely easy to prepare with clear instructions. It is perfect for busy families or those nights you may not have heaps of time to cook, but still want a delicious and nutritious meal.

I was impressed, not only with the food but also the service I received from dish’d… so much so I have already placed another order. It is brilliant to have such delicious food ready in the freezer when I need it. As I mentioned before the food is reasonably priced, with some bundle offers for as little as $25 – $30.

If you are interested in trying dish’d now is the time to do it.

They have an introductory offer – when you spend over $50 on your first order you will receive a $30 discount plus free delivery! That’s $50 worth of food for $20… PLUS free delivery. Order online, delivery the next day and super yummy food ready when you are. Frozen meals have never been so good J

Have you tried dish’d?

I would love to hear what you thought.

These meals look convenient but I wonder how appropriate they are in terms of the fat/sodium/energy content, and also what sort of additives they contain. They do look pretty yummy but I’m not convinced they’re a healthy long-term option.

You obviously have a different interpretation of guilt-free to me. The meals look full of saturated fat and dead animals. Not guilt free at all.

Hi buds thanks for your response. Just to clarify I never said all of the selections I chose were ‘guilt free’. There are certainly nutritious and healthy choices you can make from the dish’d menu if you want to avoid saturated fat. If you read my post you would have seen we had salmon, greens and potato one night and lamb fillets, greens and potato another night and whilst there may be healthier options I consider neither of these meals to be unhealthy or high in saturated fat. dish’ provided my family with convenient, well prepared and tasty meals on the nights we were time poor. The lamb and greens look very yummy
    and healthy too
But you didn’t post a picture of the salted caramel ganache tart
So if I won the $50 it would be spent on
    this delicious sounding sticky goo

I tried to be good! It tried to tempt me but I resisted the tart.

Wow, what a great idea. I have always stayed away from frozen meals due to past experience of them being so bland and watery! But this may change my mind.
I would grab the Heritage Raspberry and Pistachio Frangipane Tart (haha starting off with dessert first!), Prawn and Crab Mezzelune, Potato Dauphinois, Marinated Scallops (your pic makes them look amazing!) and the Squid En Papillote.

    Phew! What a hard choice.

I would get the baked giant beans, the marinated scallops, the 5 cheese pizza, and the 12 profiteroles a la creme for dessert!
