Woolworths and Michelle Bridges have teamed up to create a new range of healthy frozen meals aptly named Delicious Nutritious.
First we’ll tackle the elephant in the room. Unless you live under a rock, you would have seen bit of hoo-haa about the ads for the Delicious Nutritious range. The ads feature Michelle Bridges herself and…well you can see it below….
I don’t want to focus too much on the ad. I think we can all agree that the word ‘freak’ was a poor choice and the ad didn’t really communicate the message Michelle Bridges and Woolworths intended. Anyway, Michelle Bridges has since apologised and all is right in the world again.
Now let’s get to the real issue here. What’s the range like?
Is it as delicious and nutritious as the name suggests?
I attended the launch of the Delicious Nutritious range and got to (quickly) ask Michelle Bridges a few questions. I was interested to know if Michelle was approached by Woolworths or if this was something Michelle had wanted to do. Michelle has a huge following and a solid brand promoting health and well being so I was also keen to find out what part she played in the creation of the range.
Michelle told me that she was very involved in the creation of these meals and was the one who had approached Woolies, which I think is important to know. Michelle was adamant that these meals are healthy options for busy people/families and a lot of thought had gone into them.
“I know it’s not easy to always be healthy but these meals are perfect to keep in the freezer so you’ll always have a great tasting, healthy meal whenever you want, and ready in a matter of minutes.” Michelle Bridges.
The Delicious Nutritious range includes eight tasty meals (RRP $7.99):
- Chicken Pesto Pasta
- Beef & Tomato Casserole
- Asian Style Chicken
- Spicy Chimichurri Beef & Vegetables
- Salmon Fish Cakes
- Italian Style Chicken
- Moroccan Style Chickpea Tagine
- Mild Massaman Beef
I’ve tried nearly all of the meals and my favourite was by far the Salmon Fish Cakes! All the meals have more veges than meat/fish and with a couple of the meals I found it difficult to actually finish the vege component (very filling!). Each meal option is a complete balanced meal with less than 450 calories, 3 serves of vegetables, and at least a four Health Star Rating.
I found all the meals I tried very tasty and quite filling….I wasn’t starving after eating one that’s for sure. The other bonus is they are super quick to prepare in the microwave and I think at $7.99 they are fairly good value for money.
These meals are good to keep in the freezer as a back up, for those nights time just gets away from you. With a family of five it would mean I could feed all of us one of these for a total of $39.95 which is slightly cheaper (and a whole lot healthier) than pizza which we would spend about $45 or more on.
