Are you looking for the best iPhone case to protect your phone?
Could your phone survive a drop into the toilet by an inquisitive toddler? What about being buried under sand at the beach or little sticky, food covered hands and drool?
Phones aren’t cheap, not to mention all that data (photos and contacts etc) so it pays to protect it!
My current iPhone case is a leather, wallet style type that offers very little protection as far as water and dropping goes. This week I received the tech21 Evo Xplorer iPhone 6/6s Case to review, and my first impression was good.
The Evo Xplorer Case offers the ultimate protection for your phone. It’s a nice looking case and quite lightweight. The packaging was slick and it looked like a quality product. The box had installation instructions and information but there was also a great little instruction book that was easy to understand.
Not only did I receive the case, I also received a box full of stuff to help me put the Evo Xplorer to the Ultimate Phone Protection Test.
I’ll get to the testing in a moment but first a little about tech21 and the Evo Xplorer. Tech21 has been around since 2005 and is known for their cases and screen shields for mobile, tablet and laptop devices. tech21 have also developed FlexShockTM, an ultra thin, lightweight impact material that absorbs and dissipates force and can withstand drops of up to 2 metres!
tech21 have a great range of device (not just iPhone) protection products that vary in price so there is something for every budget. The Evo Xplorer is the top of the line protection and will set you back $139.95. Although it’s on the higher $ side this case is a good investment – what you would pay to get your phone back if it was damaged beyond repair? (I bet it’s more than $139.95). The Evo Xplorer is waterproof, dustproof and snow proof and in addition, after testing I’ve found it’s baby proof, toilet proof and beach proof.
Some of the other features are:
- Waterproof up to 3m (will survive the toilet, kitchen sink and beach!)
- With FlexShock™, the Evo Xplorer provides 2m drop protection (will survive drops from the high chair and pram!)
A couple of things I really liked about the Evo Xplorer, first was the earphone jack. You unscrew the cap and insert the jack extension supplied with the case. The jack extension screws into place keeping the phone waterproof.
The second thing I loved about this phone case was you still had access to everything and using the phone didn’t change (or wasn’t harder) even though this is a pretty extreme case. The case has a clip at the bottom that opens up to reveal the charging port. The other function of the clip is to prevent the case from splitting open when it’s dropped. I did find the clip a little tough to open on occasion, but I suppose that’s a good thing really.
So on to the fun stuff, the Ultimate Phone Protection Test!
With the help of my eleven year-old son/videographer, I began to put the Evo Explorer to the test. It’s important to note that prior to testing we had to ensure the phone was inserted correctly. There’s easy to follow instructions in the booklet and if you don’t insert the phone correctly you may compromise the protection.
We did all the following tests and then opened the case and took the iPhone out to inspect the damage (if any). To see all the tests in action and to see if the phone survived, scroll down to the video below.
Challenge One – Baby Proof
We got messy, and squirted a whole heap of baby food over the case and then we rubbed it in, just like a toddler would.
Challenge Two – Beach proof
We covered the phone in sand and then poured sea water all over it!
Challenge Three – Toilet Proof
This one is pretty obvious; we put the phone in the toilet – eeek!
The Evo Xplorer Case passed with flying colours, watch the video here:
When my kids were younger they were obsessed with my iPhone. I bought ‘toy’ phones but there was no fooling them, they wanted the real deal. There have been times when my phone has got into the wrong little hands however I’ve always made sure I have some sort of case or protection so it hasn’t led to complete annihilation of my phone.
The Evo Xplorer gives your phone awesome protection without making it difficult to use all the phone features and it’s not just parents who will appreciate this phone case, it’s perfect for anyone because you never know what life may throw your way!
The Evo Xplorer case for iPhone 6/6s can be purchased for $139.95 at major retailers including JB Hi-Fi, Officeworks and online at tech21.com.

May 20, 2016 at 1:09 pmDefinitely the fact that it’s waterproof….never ONCE have I shattered a screen, but i’ve killed two phones with water, one in the toilet and the other in the arm compartment of my camp chair after rain – on Christmas Day!

May 20, 2016 at 10:40 amWaterproof to 3m…My phone was dropped into the edge of a dam on our last holiday!

May 20, 2016 at 10:07 amAll these features sound amazing but 2 metre drop protection?! How fantastic is that, especially when you’re as clutzy and uncoordinated as me!
I can’t even tell you how many times I have dropped my phone, even from short heights.
This feature saves all the hassle associated with broken screens, broken phones and repair cost due to flimsy phone covers!
Belinda
May 19, 2016 at 10:27 pmWaterproof! I’m a clutz when it comes to keeping my phone water damage free! 🙂

May 19, 2016 at 1:08 pmBeing waterproof is the biggest pluses for me… I’ve dopped phones in the loo, in the sink, in the bath and once in a glass of beer…

May 19, 2016 at 10:44 amWaterproof. And cake proof. Just general slop proof. I have accidentally dropped so much on mine, and dropped it in things too!

May 18, 2016 at 8:44 pmDROP PROOF!! seriously the amount of times I DROP my phone in ONE DAY is ridiculous!
WATERPROOF!! I NEED this in my life!! We often go out bush and I’m always WISHING I could have my phone on me whilst SWIMMING so I could take photos of my gorgeous children making memories!
And all this in a NON BULKY case so it will still FIT in my pocket?!!
YES PLEASE!

May 18, 2016 at 2:35 pmIt’s waterproof! How cool is that, I’ve had so many phones ruined because of a little water mishap!

May 18, 2016 at 11:28 amOh my goodness I need this in my life!!!
Favourite feature is definitely the waterproofing. My special needs Master 4 year old has a bad habit of ‘borrowing’ my phone. Let’s just say he doesn’t quite understand that iPhones and water don’t mix!!

May 17, 2016 at 1:20 pmPutting phone in back pocket and down the loo it went.Definitely need a water proof phone. After fishing it out and trying all suggestions ended up spending $150 to get it fixed.Never the same again.

May 17, 2016 at 12:51 amI understand it will be the only thing left working after a nuclear bomb blast… But can it stand up to a young 20 year old – drinking, dancing, dropping, vomiting, sleeping on and I don’t wanna know what else..
Casey-Anne Thomsett
May 16, 2016 at 10:43 pmMy partner is absolutely HOPELESS when it comes to phones. Seriously, I’ve never met anyone with worse luck! He’s been through SIX phones in the last 5 months. 3 of them were in ONE day. He left one on top of his car roof and it got ran over, he dropped another in a bucket of plaster at work, and when he went to pick up the third from his mothers he fumbled and it smashed on the tiles and the screen just went blank. Lol! It was horrible! So I finally said no more phones for you and went and bought him a $19 Nokia to teach him to be more careful. This would totally inspire me to give him his phone back and for you to prove the ultimate challenge!

May 16, 2016 at 10:33 pmDrop Protection is ideal for when my little one has a tantrum and the phone goes flying

May 16, 2016 at 7:43 pmWater proof means projectile vomit proof. A necessity with young kids.
Kelly Ryan
May 16, 2016 at 6:20 pmThe shockproof feature as I’m always dropping my phone whilst juggling everything or my 3 year old drops it when I see her trying to unlock it.

May 16, 2016 at 1:20 pmGreat protection, would save me a fortune on getting phones fixed, my last one dropped and smashed when I was trying to put it in its new case 🙁
Bella Ki
May 16, 2016 at 11:50 amIt’s waterproof! I’m always near a source of water and now I don’t have to worry about someone knocking my phone into the sink or the toilet!

May 16, 2016 at 10:07 amThe increased protection from cracked screen is AWESOME! Our youngest is a little clumsy (!) so it’s good peace of mind. 🙂

May 15, 2016 at 12:08 pmDrowning’s never been a problem: I’m careful perhaps.
But my fingers are getting older, arthritic and sometimes just lax…
I LOVE FlexShock™ that copes with increasing inevitable deadly impacts!

May 15, 2016 at 10:10 amThis is the answer to my stresses – a case which has the ability to ACTUALLY protect…
Against the beautiful blessings that are my children… who are innovative and literal in their ways, this includes “cleaning” my phone in a toilet bowl, feeding the screen animation their breakfast, involving my device in a mid-flight tantrum across the room.
So, my favourite feature of the Evo Xplorer is that it is CHILDPROOF and still fashionably stylish! I currently use a tradie case and can barely hear the people who contact me due to its “durability” and turn off my phone mid screen-shot due to the “toughness” of my case.
This Evo Xplorer is everything I desire!
Stav Mataia
May 14, 2016 at 9:04 pmLove that it’s light weight with a great price range and massive protection against damage to the phone.

May 13, 2016 at 11:51 pmGoing to the loo, and what do you do?
Go to sit down and your phone drops… EW.
Day by the pool, you’re pushed in by a fool,
Your phone’s in your pocket, try to keep your cool!
Sunday morning, washing time,
Sheets from the washer and what do you find?
Your phone was inside, you silly goof.
Thank god the Evo Xplorer’s case is waterproof!
melissa
May 13, 2016 at 7:44 pmthat its totally water proof cos I’ve accidentally spilt drinks on my phone or had water bottles leak on it several times. this would be a phone saver!!
sarah mary
May 13, 2016 at 10:28 amI love the idea of ‘Protection without compromise’! The Evo Explorer has fantastic durability, not to mention being waterproof and shock proof. As long as it’s MAN proof too, as my partner seems to go through phones like no tomorrow! Living in Tasmania, I was also excited to see the Evo Explorer being SNOW proof, as it does get mightily icy down here!
tanya armitage
May 12, 2016 at 10:46 amMy fav feature of the tech 21 evo explorer is the screw in earphone jack. Allowing your phone not only to be water proof but preventing sand getting stuck in there from the playground. not only from the children dropping but when I drop it taking photos of them having fun.
Kristie Wassermann
May 12, 2016 at 8:52 amThe durability and protection from cracked screens! With young kids that are a little clumsy, this is a very exciting new must have!
David
May 11, 2016 at 8:54 pmI have gone through 4 phones in the past 6 months, whether I drop it in the shower, toilet, or off a balcony. This case would be great, and sure would save me thousands ???

May 11, 2016 at 3:42 pmI love the 2m drop protection…my youngest always gets hold of my phone and throws it. Maybe this way too, if I get angry after a phone call I can throw the phone and get the same sensation of being able to slam the phone down like you could years ago!

I NEEEEEEEEEEEEED THIS!!
KYLIE EMBURY
May 10, 2016 at 12:31 pmWaterproof is essential! I could say my 4 year old son is the culprit but it’s ME! I have dropped my phone in a puddle outside our garage door this morning trying to carry too many things at once and make sure he doesn’t jam his fingers in the door! It’s a daily juggle and a bit of a struggle I must say – especially on school days, and knowing my precious phone is safe would be one less thing to worry about!
Elisabeth Martins
May 10, 2016 at 12:14 pmWaterproof for sure,
the kids love throwing the phone in water,
and licking the thing all the time.
This is perfect! 🙂

May 10, 2016 at 12:08 pmI love that you can be confident that your phone is really well protected but are still able to use the device as normal. Sooooo frustrating when it makes functions more difficult!

May 8, 2016 at 2:34 pmIts sleek design and ability to keep my phone waterproof while listening to music is the best feature I like of EVO Xplorer. This means I can use my iphone as a phone, music device, gps guidance etc. even when I am exposed to nature’s elements while being on the move either on my feet, my bike or motorbike, ensuring my investment is protected at every step.

May 8, 2016 at 12:59 pmToilet proof. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve dropped one of my phones in the dunny and killed it. Once even in a public toilet, where I let it stay because there was no way on this earth I was going to stick my hand in to retrieve it.
