There is a Tribe of Kids is a witty, whimsical and playful exploration of curiosity, discovery and what it means to belong – the perfect embodiment of childhood imagination.
There is a Tribe of Kids is a beautifully illustrated children’s book which was inspired by the author’s own childhood adventure with a tribe of goats at age 8. Author Lane Smith is a legendary illustrator and in this book he takes the reader on a trip through the natural world, following a child as he weaves through the jungle, dives under the ocean and soars into the sky.
There is a Tribe of Kids is a lovely book to read to younger children, my 5 year old thoroughly enjoyed both the story and illustrations throughout the book. I even learned a thing or two about groups! Although aimed at younger children, its beautiful packaging and overarching message makes it an ideal gift to share with children of all ages.
The book jacket has lovely gold foil and the illustrations are beautiful.
Information about the author: Lane Smith is the creator of a shelf of books, including the New York Times bestselling It’s a Book and its companion, It’s a Little Book. The beautiful Caldecott Honor-winning Grandpa Green can also be found there alongside his brilliantly quirky collaborations with John Scieszka including The True Story of the Three Little Pigs and The Stinky Cheeseman and Other Fairly Stupid Tales. He has also illustrated Roald Dahl’s James and the Giant Peach and collaborated on the conceptual design of the Disney movie adaptation. In 2012, the Eric Carle Museum named him a Carle Artist for “lifelong innovation in the field of children’s picture books,” and in 2014 he was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Society of Illustrators. Lane Smith and his wife, the designer Molly Leach, live in a small town in rural Connecticut, USA.
There Is a Tribe of Kids is released 26 April 2016 and is available in hardback for $24.99. For more information visit Pan Macmillan. For more information about Lane Smith and his other books visit his website.

May 22, 2016 at 5:42 pmI would love to win this to give to my nephew on his next birthday. He is a super special little boy to me who just adores adventures, excitement and stories. He has an amazing imagination and the more stories we share with him the more his imagination will grow. It is nothing out of the ordinary to watch him wandering the yard telling tales. This is something special that I would hope one day he would be able to pass onto his own little baby. Just beautiful x
